WRJ Resolutions

Just as your individual voice becomes louder when your entire sisterhood takes on a cause; so does your sisterhood’s voice become louder when it is joined by 500 other sisterhoods.  WRJ has positions on dozens and dozens of issues.  The positions are determined by WRJ members who represent sisterhoods at the Biennial Assemblies, by proposing and voting upon resolutions.  These resolutions serve as position statements that guide WRJ and sisterhoods in how to respond to a call for action.  This may take the form of leading a campaign to vote for or against specific legislation; it may be that WRJ and its sisterhoods join other like-minded organizations to sign a petition; or it may be that WRJ initiates a statement about an issue or policy.  Whatever the form, it is your voice.  Click here to find out more about how WRJ’s resolutions can guide your sisterhood advocacy efforts.

WRJ Represents You

WRJ reaches out into the greater Reform Jewish population and beyond, through its affiliations and representation on boards and commissions.  Why? Because if WRJ is involved with these important efforts, that means you are as well.  It also ensures that the Reform Jewish women’s perspective will be presented in discussions and will be involved in the decision-making process.  Following each meeting, WRJ representatives to these boards write reports that are shared with sisterhoods – ensuring you are well-informed about the initiatives that are working around the world and can support or expand on these efforts. Social Action

Social Action is carried out on the grass-roots level through WRJ’s 500 sisterhoods. WRJ helps in the following ways:

·         Publishes “Social Justice: Advocacy and Programming”, an email alert sent every Wednesday to sisterhood presidents about current issues and related programming ideas. Ask your sisterhood president to share this with your sisterhood members. (If your sisterhood president is not receiving this, contact Carolyn Kunin This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it at WRJ

·         Produces annual guides for programming and advocacy to provide the information needed to organize programs, develop community services, and take action to implement specific WRJ resolutions.  Each guide covers the resolutions and statements adopted during the period indicated and offers programming ideas to turn the resolutions into action.  Guide for Advocacy and Action (2008).

·         Serves on the Commission on Social Action (CSA) Board to align advocacy efforts with the Reform Movement.  Often these issues serve as the springboard for resolutions that are brought before the WRJ Board and sisterhood representatives at the WRJ Assembly every two years.

·         Participates in discussions with Senators, Representatives, public policy and opinion leaders to explore issues central to the Reform movement's values at the Consultation on Conscience.

·         Signs onto hundreds of petitions and position statements guided by resolutions often initiated by sisterhoods and collectively approved through the resolution process.  For a complete list of recent WRJ actions, download the online Critical Issues Action Grid.
