Service on the WRJ Mid-Atlantic District Board
All Presidents of sisterhoods in the WRJ Mid-Atlantic District automatically serve as members on the District Board. The District encourages sisterhood presidents, who have served one term or more on the district board, to consider becoming a committee chair or area director. These positions are excellent training for rising leaders. Additionally, there are exciting opportunities for experienced leaders to be elected as an officer to the district board to help determine policies, mentor rising leaders, educate members about WRJ’s mission and assist sisterhoods in achieving their goals.
Nomination and Election Process
The district nominating committee is made up of seven members selected by the district president and chaired by the immediate past president. Sisterhoods are invited to submit a name for consideration as a district officer or area director. The committee develops the slate and sends it to sisterhoods prior to the district convention where the election is held.
To be eligible for office, a member must be Jewish, have served on the district board, be a member of a sisterhood in good standing and a member of a congregation affiliated with the Union for Reform Judaism. Officers are elected to serve for a two-year term and assume their duties at the close of the convention.

WRJ and District Speakers’ Bureau
The Speakers’ Bureau is a valuable opportunity for sisterhoods to learn from WRJ and district leadership. Officers and Board members from WRJ and the Mid-Atlantic District are available to energize, inspire, educate, and motivate rising leaders as well as general membership. These speakers will help sisterhoods prepare for a special event, celebration or retreat, and introduce members to the special projects and programs of WRJ. They will also facilitate training workshops on any aspect of sisterhood life. To find out more about how to take advantage of this opportunity, contact your Area Director or the District President. If you are seeking a speaker directly from WRJ, contact Rachel Jurisz or call WRJ toll free at 1.866.WRJ.5924.

Between Assembly years, WRJ offers training for sisterhoods through the Sisterhood Leadership Conference. WRJ Mid-Atlantic District Convention
The WRJ Mid-Atlantic District hosts a Convention every other year to provide opportunities for sisterhoods to come together on a regional basis to learn, share, worship, and celebrate their Judaism. Member sisterhoods are encouraged to send current and rising leaders who will be given the opportunity to participate in learnshops led by district and WRJ leadership. District Conventions also provide the unique opportunity to meet and develop friendships with sisterhood leaders from neighboring congregations.
